Mid Winter update

March 01, 2025

Well the storms seem to be over for now. We are probably going to experience the usual ten days of good balmy weather for January and then back to the rain. Many folks who I haven’t heard from in years called to make sure that we had not been washed away. We had some trees go down, one across the road on Saturday the 31st. All in all we escaped any serious effects from the weather. Chick Hilton called from Las Vegas, he was my stockbroker from my lettuce days in the Imperial Valley, to find out if I was still above water. We are on the upswing now, the days are getting longer and soon the temperature will be rising. The Garden is being renovated and improved with more bulbs for spring flowers and some new rose gardens. Plan to come over and enjoy the gorgeous display of spring opulence.

For any of you who might be interested in restoring historic buildings look further in the web site for our new offering “The Barn Restoration Society”. There will be lots of opportunities for fun and frolic and even a sense of accomplishment for having had a part in saving some history for future generations. The Barn still has two of the old horse stalls in original condition. Join up and share your talents or just hang around and kibitz.

I have been suffering from writers block lately, I know that I promised to generate some more of “Richards Adventures” but the dreary weather and copious deluge of rain has dampened my spirit to the point where all that I can imagine is warm bright sunny days. Rebecca and I are going, in February, with the Napa Vintners to Los Angeles and San Diego for trade and consumer tastings, so maybe getting away from the winery will get my juices flowing and I will write some stories.

For those of you who missed our holiday letter and did not see our group picture including our new employee Justin Cude, Justin is going to work at the winery full time starting in February. He will be responsible for outside sales in Northern California as well as helping in our web marketing effort. Rebecca is concentrating on the southern part of the state for outside sales along with her other duties. Homer is hiding under a stack of papers and helping in the sale (soon to be tasting room) room. With all this wonderful help I am going for an extended vacation to the French Riviera and watch nokinis. Don’t I wish.

A friend is one who steps in when the world steps out.
