Dear Friends,

For those of you who have not heard from me in quite a while, I apologize. We have had numerous problems including the computer which ate the mailing list and would not give it back to my smashed little finger on my left hand, which required twenty-one stitches in the top third and therefor I could not type; ergo no newsletter. Some of you may be thinking to yourselves, "Well, let someone else type the letter." I thought of that idea, but who could do such an incomparable job like I do? Anyone, you say. Not a chance!

There has been some interest from outside real estate brokers in buying my winery, however, it seems that when there is some interest, I look over the property and I just cannot bear the idea of waking up one morning and not having this view to reenergize my spirit. As an alternative I am going to explore creating a Limited Liability Company to bring in outside interests which will allow me to develop the property to its fullest potential without giving up this wonderful piece of heaven. For those of you who have read The Celestine Prophesy, the part where the author writes about that one special place in nature where a person can reenergize their soul, well, the highest point on my property is such a place for me. From there I can gaze out over the valley to the Palisades on the other side of the valley and in the early morning you can watch the sun rise over the mountains and the shadows shorten until the entire valley is bathed in sunshine. The experience is truly magical. Then there is the dry creek on the far side of the property where very few besides myself ever go, which with a little tender loving care would look a great deal like some of the pictures of Japanese Gardens with a dry creek and moss covered rocks. Let someone else hog these lovely experiences? I do not think so, subject closed.

Les Case came by a few months back and allowed as how he thought I could elevate my wines to world class status if I just used one hundred percent new French Oak for my already delicious reds. Well I think you are right, Les, but barrels are expensive and must be paid for up front. Well, Les allowed as how we would like to be the first in a new program to finance all new barrels for a special wine. (See Reserve Program elsewhere in the letter.)

Since I wrote last, we have finished the Merlots up to 1995 Vintage which may be one of my tastiest. This letter is your last chance to buy the 1992 Cabernet Franc at my shamefully low price before I remove it to the Library and raise the price! If any of you would like to buy now to lock in my ridiculously low prices and have them shipped when the weather is cooler, I would be happy to accomodate your wishes.

I have run out of things to say and my little finger is tired so I will wish you all well until my pre-harvest letter and I will wander through my vineyard and enjoy my good fortune. Don't forget the Crush BBQ first weekend in October.

Peace be with you!

Sincerely,

Richard L. Graeser
